Double Dart Cookie
DoubleClick DART Cookie
What is the purpose of the DoubleClick cookie on my computer?
Having a DoubleClick cookie in your Cookies folder typically indicates it is a DART cookie. The DoubleClick DART cookie aids marketers in understanding the effectiveness of their internet advertising campaigns or paid search listings. Numerous marketers and websites utilize DoubleClick’s DART technology to deliver advertisements or manage their paid search listings. When an advertisement is shown or a paid listing is clicked, the DART products from DoubleClick establish or identify a unique, persistent cookie. The data the DART cookie provides marketers includes insights into the number of unique users who viewed their advertisements, the count of users who interacted with their internet ads or paid listings, and specifics on which ads or listings received clicks.
Why does the cookie reappear after I remove it?
Upon visiting any website or search engine utilizing DoubleClick’s DART technology, our servers will check for the presence of a DART cookie. If the servers do not find a DART cookie, they will attempt to create a cookie in reaction to your browser’s “request” for that webpage. If you prefer not to receive a DART cookie with a unique value, you can request a DoubleClick DART “opt-out” cookie. Alternatively, you can modify your internet browser’s cookie settings, which will be clarified in the following question.
How can I modify my cookie settings to either permit or block cookies?
To remove cookies you have previously accepted, or to refuse or limit future cookies, please follow one of these procedures:
IMPORTANT: IF YOU REMOVE YOUR OPT-OUT COOKIE, YOU WILL NEED TO OPT-OUT AGAIN. IF YOUR BROWSER PREVENTS ALL OR THIRD-PARTY COOKIES, THE SETTING OF OPT-OUT COOKIES WILL BE BLOCKED.
* For Internet Explorer 6.0 users, navigate to the Tools menu, then Internet Options, followed by the Privacy tab. This version is the first to implement P3P for differentiating cookie types. P3P employs standardized privacy statements from the cookie issuer to manage your cookie acceptance. Under the “Privacy” tab, click the “Advanced” button. Choose “Override automatic cookie handling” and decide whether to accept, block, or be prompted for “First-party” and “Third-party Cookies.” To block all cookies from the doubleclick.net domain, go to the “Web Sites” section under the “Privacy” tab, click the “Edit” button, enter “doubleclick.net” in the “Address of Web site” field, select “Block,” click OK (the menu will disappear), click OK again to return to the browser.
* For Netscape 6.0+ users, access “Edit” in the menu bar, select “Preferences,” click on “Advanced,” and choose the “Cookies” section. Check either the box indicating, “Warn me before accepting a cookie” or “Disable cookies.” Click “OK.” Then, click on the “Start” button, select “Find,” click on “Files and Folders,” type “cookies.txt” in the search box that appears, and hit “Find Now.” When the results are presented, drag all listed files into the “Recycle Bin.” Restart your Netscape program. Depending on your previous choice, you will either be notified by new cookie sets or none will be set or received.* Mozilla or Safari users should visit their respective websites for guidance on disabling cookies in those browsers.
